Biografia di Bernard Cornwell

Bernard Cornwell, Londra,1944.
Il padre apparteneva all'aeronautica canadese e la madre era un'inglese membro della Women's auxiliary air force. Venne adottato nell'Essex dalla famiglia Wiggins. Dopo la morte del padre adottivo cambiò il cognome in Cornwell, il cognome della madre naturale. Incontrò il vero padre per la prima volta all'età di 58 anni.
Frequentò la Monkton Combe School e si laureò al collegio di San Marco e di San Giovanni, in seguito lavorò come insegnante. Si sposò ed ebbe una figlia, successivamente divorziò e si risposò con una statunitense e nel 1979 si trasferì negli Stati Uniti.
Dopo aver lavorato a lungo nella BBC, si è dedicato interamente alla letteratura, specializzandosi in romanzi storici e d'avventura. È noto in particolare per la serie di romanzi incentrata sulle avventure di Richard Sharpe e per la trilogia dedicata alla ricerca del Sacro Graal.

PLACE-NAMES
The spelling of place-names in Anglo-Saxon England was an uncertain business, with no consistency and no agreement even about the name itself. Thus London was variously rendered as Lundonia, Lundenberg, Lundenne, Lundene, Lundenwic, Lundenceaster and Lundres. Doubtless some readers will prefer other versions of the names listed below, but I have usually employed whatever spelling is cited in the Oxford Dictionary of English Place-Names for the years nearest or contained within Alfre
